2005 Honda Junior Blue light review

Posted:

2005 saw the running of the inaugural junior blue light ride. Held for the first time in the 30 year history of the well known senior blue light ride. Run over private property the junior rider could learn some of the skills required for future trail and cross country riding. Limiting the age for riders from 12 to 16 years and only allowing trail type orientated bikes meant that motocross bikes were not permitted in the event. The course took approximately 10 minutes to negotiate through tight twisty trails, off cambers grass track and general fire trails, meant a demanding course to capture every skill of cross country riding was required. 110 lucky riders entered and 12 of those were female riders. The riders rode for 3 hours with a pit stop at the completion of every lap to check with mum and dad and get a drink and go over the bikes. Riders were then presented with a finishing medal and a meal and then sit back and enjoy the prizes to be raffled to all entrants. The major prise was a Honda CRF50 which was won by Danial Eklom. Other prize winners were:
Fox Hydra Pack - Erin Vanerberg
Fox tool bag - Michael Berwick, Liam Jenkins and Anthony Lombardi
Dunlop Tyres - Brock Chamings

12 months ADB Subscription - Jay Rice, Michael Jess, Zac Puplett and Michelle Egan
Holeshot images frame shot - Danial Eklom

Oldest bike finisher was Mitchell Finley on a Yamaha CT125 1972 model. The day was a huge success and an introduction to all riders to this concept of organised enduro type riding. Motorcycling Victoria gave all riders a "come and Try" licence for the day as a "one off" introduction before a licence is required for another event. Judging by the calibre of riders in the event they will have no trouble in getting a competition licence and entering the junior enduros of the Victorian Off Road Championships in 2006. Many thanks go to the sponsors of this event in Honda, ADB, Fox, Shift, Dunlop, Holeshot images and EMD. The event was the initiative of the Victoria Police Motor Sports Club as a prelude to the major Blue Light Ride the following day. At the end of the day it was smiles all round for the riders, the mums and dads looking for this type of event as well as the sponsors and the organisers. All proceeds from the junior event will be donated to the Royal Children's Hospital.
