Former Australian Motocross Champion, Darryl King has added another Australian Motocross Championship victory to his resume, New Zealand warrior won the over 40s division of the newley formed Australian Vets Championship last weekend at Coolum, QLD.
King proved that he is man of steel after overcoming a huge crash that decimated his bike and body on Saturday to return to the track and win the Over 40 Vets class on Sunday. King high-sided his YZ450F in a fall on Saturday and had servere pain and bruising in his legs and neck.
But after a quick ocean dip, the former World Number two was back at the track Sunday morning straightening out his bike and preparing to hit the track. Like Taylor, he showed plenty of class to dominate the old timers division and won all three motos in convincing fashion.
“That crash on Saturday really took the wind out of me, but I went down to the ocean and just stood around in the surf and it felt much better. Modern bikes have so much power that you really have to respect them or things can get nasty in a hurry.”
“I would like to thank Ray Howard at Yamaha and the Yamaha Under 19 team for their support whilst I have been in Australia this year. They have made my life pretty easy over here and also to WEM for running the Vets classes,” King said.
Motorex KTM off-road team manager and off road champion himself, Brad Williscroft, took second ahead of Stuart McFerran.
