Motorcycling NSW's first-ever Call To Arms Charity Ride Day exceeded many expectations over the weekend, as large fields of riders turned out at the Lakes Motorcycle Club and donned yellow armbands to support the Cancer Council's Call To Arms and awareness of Men's cancer, whilst raising thousands of dollars in the process.
Riders of all ages, and their families, converged on the Lake Macquarie track on Saturday to utilize their chance to ride one of Australia's top motocross circuits, under a laid-back, cause-worthy atmosphere.
Despite the less-than-perfect conditions to start the day, riders got into the spirit, wrapping their arms in yellow armbands and having a blast with their mates, whilst some were gaining valuable track time in the lead-up to the Australian Junior Motocross Championship - which are to be held at Lakes in late September.
However, it wasn't long before the sun was out and the atmosphere began to brighten. Newcastle Castles graciously provided a jumping castle for the younger family members, with others choosing to check-out the on-track action which included a large field of quads, tearing their way up and down the hills of Lakes.
In the true spirit of the day, the winner of the 50/50 raffle being run on the day even donated $100 of his prize back to the Call To Arms fund - stating how much he had enjoyed the day and its worthiness.
The Call To Arms Charity Ride Day was a great start to future rider-orientated events in coming months and showed that when a call goes out to show support and help others, the motorcycling community in NSW is a strong group, ready to answer the call - and MNSW wishes to express its sincere appreciation to each and every rider who turned up and made the day such a great success.
MNSW also wishes a big thank you to all who helped get the first-ever Charity Ride Day off-the-ground, including MNSW staffer, Megan Oldfield, whom came up with concept of the Call To Arm Charity Ride Day and has worked tirelessly through to fruition.
To the Lakes Motorcycle Club and all of its wonderful, committed and hardworking members - your efforts in the lead-up and on the day were truly outstanding and we thank you on behalf of MNSW and the riders.
A big thanks also to New all of the marshals who donated their time on the day to keep the riding underway. So too all of the MNSW officials, Leon Sayers and family, Bill Sultana and family, MNSW Director Ian Packer, MNSW Staffer Brooke Sutherland and family and MNSW President, Christine Tickner - all of your efforts were extremely appreciated.
Once again, thank you to Newcastle Castles for supporting the day and supply a fantastic jumping castle for the kids and friendly staff to help the day along. To find out more about hiring a jumping castle, check them out at www.newcastlecastles.com.au
