New Zealand South Island Trials Championship gets underway

Round one and two of the New Zealand South Island Trials Championship has been run and won last weekend (March 6-7) near the small hamlet of Havelock.
Everyone was a little unsure of the conditions on Saturday due to the overnight rain, but Sunday sure made up for it with the sunshine.
Expert rider Karl Clark from Motueka showed good form to achieve two wins over the two days betting his opposition by 40 points over the weekend.
Jason Baker, 10 times South Island Champion from Rarangi, had a second on day one and a third on day three giving him second place overall. Nick Oliver from Nelson also having a third and a well earned second on Sunday took out third place overall.
In the A Grade class experienced Steve Oliver, also from Nelson, took the overall win for the weekend winning both days. Carl Robson from Wellington made the trip South and he showed he was on track for a good year ahead coming in second place for the weekend. Dunedin's Blake Fox, on his 125cc Gas Gas, showed he was also in form, this was the first time that Blake competed in A Grade and by his overall third placing proved he that he will be one to watch!
In the Intermediate grade Warwick Merriman also from the North Island had a tough battle over the weekend. Merriman won the first day but was tied on first place with two other riders, Paul Jackson and John Regan and all of these riders had to be counted back on cleans and the overall. The win went to Merriman. Paul Jackson was classed second with John Regan rounding out the podium.
First time rider Daniel Clark from Motueka had a great start to the season. Second place on the first day and a first placing on the second day gave him the overall first placing for the weekend. Andy Beale had a good first placing on the Saturday and a second on the Sunday giving him second placing over all. Gordon Anderson from Nelson coming in at third for the weekend.
Presidents was a close grade but Nigel Shilton proved the cream of the crop taking out first place, Keith Ruthven was second and Graeme Hibbs in third place.
Junior rider Brady Inwood from Motueka showed that he was the up and coming rider taking out first place overall for the weekend and David Trewin coming in second.
