Motorcycling Victoria (MV)has recorded its fifth consecutive year of growth, with membership numbers growing steadily in 2009.
Membership numbers at the end of 2009 were 4328, compared with 4276 at the end of 2008; an increase of 52.
Whilst this may only be a small increase, it is a positive sign given the tough economic times facing many Victorian households courtesy of the Global Financial Crisis.
Since 2004 MV has recorded five consecutive years of growth in membership numbers, growing from 3505 in 2004 to 4328 in 2009.
MV General Manager, Mark Campbell, says this is a great sign that initiatives implemented by MV over the last few years are having an effect.
“It is encouraging to see such a continued growth in this exciting, enjoyable and family-orientated sport.
“Motorcycling Victoria is committed to supporting, encouraging and administering motorcycle sport and recreation activities throughout Victoria and this growth shows that we are succeeding in that endeavour.
“So, it is important that we maintain our efforts in this mission to provide enjoyment for all current and future participants.” he said.
In a positive sign for the sport in Australia, each of the other six State Controlling Bodies also recorded an increase in membership numbers, with the national total increasing from 26,221 at the end of 2008 to 27,189 at the end of 2009.
With the implementation of a new four-year Strategic Plan in 2009, Motorcycling Victoria is well placed to continue its growth over the next few years.
