At the age of 11, Jarad Boniface is one of the youngest rider's that is to contest this Sunday's fourth round of the 2009 NSW Moto Trials Championship at Mt. Kembla on the South Coast and he is aiming to continue his successful start to the year.
So far in the opening three rounds of the NSW Championship, Boniface, who rides in the Junior class, has enjoyed an undefeated run and is no doubt looking to continue his winning streak this Sunday.
"Mt. Kembla is my home track and I feel confident that it is going to play into my advantage and help me try and continue my successful start to the year," commented Boniface. "Moto Trials is all about being consistent and that is one area that I have worked really hard on it so far this year. Although Mt. Kembla is my home track it is no guarantee for success and I am going to have to work as hard as I have in every one of my rounds this year."
Despite being undefeated in this year's NSW Championship, Boniface has been kept on his toes by Thomas Ring and he is very much excited about continuing their rivalry this Sunday.
"All year Thomas [Ring] has been pushing me all the way in each of my three round wins and I have enjoyed that very much," he said. "Having strong competition from Thomas and the others doesn't let me get too complacent. Complacency is something you cannot have when you compete in Moto Trials as it is the type of sport that constantly challenges you and pushes you to your limits."
Boniface enjoyed a very successful 2008 where he won his maiden NSW Championship in the Junior class and recorded a seventh place finish in the Australian Championship at Bendigo in Victoria.
In 2009 Boniface wants to make it back-to-back NSW Championship and also improve on his result in this year's Australian Championship and the Gas Gas 80cc rider has certainly made a great start to the year.
Boniface would like to say a special thanks to his father, Gary, and Grandad, Les, for all their support.
In the seniors Nowra based rider Jake Walker has his sights on recording his best result of the year and with the Mt. Kembla Motorcycle Complex regarded as his home track also he feels confident of a strong result.
Walker, who rides in the premier Expert class, battles against some of the best riders in Australia such as Colin and Kevin Zarczynski and Kyle Middleton and he would be very happy to finish inside the top five.
"The likes of Colin and Kevin Zarczynski and Kyle Middleton are regarded as the benchmark in the Expert class and although it is great to compete up against them, it is really tough," admitted Walker. "On the positive side it really helps you develop as a rider and continues to make you push harder."
Despite being regarded as the underdog when he takes on the Zarczynski's and the Middleton's, the 21-year-old really knuckles down with his training both on the bike and at the gym in order to bridge the gap between him and his front running rivals.
"I am currently sitting fifth in this year's NSW Championship point standings in the Expert class after three completed rounds and if I am going to improve then I have to continue to work hard," Walker commented. "When I am not at work, I am either riding, trying to improve my skills, or at the gym. I am a great believer in that the harder you work, the more successful you will become."
In terms of his goals for the fourth round of the NSW Championship, Walker has set himself realistic ones and he hopes that a home track advantage can work in his favour.
"I cannot wait to compete at Mt. Kembla and I hope that can work to my advantage somehow," said the Gas Gas 280cc rider. "At the last round of NSW Championship I ended up finishing in sixth place and the top six riders were only separated by 20 points. If I can finish somewhere near the podium I will be very pleased, but the main goal is to just ride consistently and try as hard as I can."
The fourth round of the NSW Championship is to be held on Sunday starting at 9.30am.
The Mt. Kembla Motorcycle Complex is located on Harry Graham Drive, Mt. Kembla.
Entry for spectators is free of charge and full canteen facilities will be available throughout the day.
