Jason Crump served up a vintage performance to establish a nine-point lead at the head of the World Championship leaderboard with victory in the European Grand Prix at Leszno, Poland last Saturday night.
From the outset, the Aussie was on a mission dropping just two points in his heats. He then stormed to victory in his semi-final and was too good for Tomasz Gollob, Andreas Jonsson and Greg Hancock in the final as he led from start to finish claiming the 19th GP victory of his career.
“This is a great win for me, and a great win for my team.” said Crump after the podium presentations. “And I’m happy to have that nine-point lead after just two rounds, but it’s only early days yet, there is still a long way to go in the championship and anything can happen. “
“It’s all about consistency and getting to the final at each event. If I can do that, then I’m in with a hot chance to win a third World title this year. Right now my only concern is the next Grand Prix in Sweden at the end of the month; it’s a SuperPrix with double prize money on offer for the winner, so my focus is to go there and win and nothing short of that.”
Round three of the Speedway Grand Prix World Championship takes place at Gothenberg in Sweden on 30 May 2009.
