The flurry of SMS's messages, internet forum chatter and plain gossip has all been put to bed with an official announcement that life-long Fox Racing rider James Stewart has left the den and moved to Answer Racing.
Not since Craig Lowndes ditched Holden for Ford has there been such a defection. Stewart along with Ricky Carmichael had become the face of Fox Racing over the years and as many where in disbelief when Lowndes dumped the roaring lion for the Blue Oval many are as equally astounded at the Bubba defection from Fox.
Officially Stewart said in a prepared release, “I am extremely excited about this new relationship with one of the sports premier brands. At the speeds and level we are racing at these days it is very important to have the best safety equipment possible. I know that Answer Racing can provide the quality race wear demanded of me and today’s MX athletes. I am very excited about this new venture and my new signature lines that we will be designing and releasing in '09 and all the other great new opportunities that are ahead.”
As you can imagine Answer Marketing Manager Roger Larsen was as happy as a kid in a candy store, “I am really excited and privileged to be working with an athlete of James' caliber. A rider like Stewart is the one piece of the puzzle that the brand has been missing. We are looking forward to a very strong and lasting relationship that without a doubt will change the face of the Answer brand.”
In an interview with America's premier motocross magazine, Motocross Action, Fox's Peter Fox explained why the two couldn't come to terms after Stewart demanded a Supercross only deal, "Since our beginning, Fox has been totally committed to motocross and Supercross. We feel strongly that our sport and Industry need both series to be healthy, and Fox will always support both series.
"That is where Fox's priorities and path recently separated from James. We wish James luck with his Supercross career. Fox remains committed to the entire sport of both Supercross and motocross," Fox told MXA
