Victorian racer Peter Boyle was the man of the hour this afternoon at round 10 of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) at Horsham, Vic, where he took his third AORC Outright win.
Boyle, 21, from Gippsland, won a heated battle with current championship leader Chris Hollis by about 17-seconds in today’s mass-start, two-and-a-half-hour cross-country event.
“After yesterday it was a bit of a downer, but today I went out there and thought, ‘I’ve got nothing to lose, so I’ll give it all I got’,” Boyle said.
“I went out there, didn’t crash, so that was a bonus as well and I ended up first.”
Boyle, who had “a bit of an off day” yesterday, finishing 8th Outright, is sitting 2nd Outright in the championship after today’s round (on 200-points).
“I will definitely go [to the final round] and try to win, cause the championship’s up for grabs,” Boyle said.
“There are four of us currently who could get it… I will hopefully wrap up my class championship and see what I can do about the Outright.”
Hollis, of the Ballard’s Yamaha Off-Road Team, will go into the final two rounds of the AORC at Nowra on August 16 and 17 leading the championship by 15-points. The top-four in the championship are separated by only 31-points.
Boyle’s teammate AJ Roberts (from Bribie Island, QLD) finished today in 3rd Outright and is sitting 4th in the championship point’s race (on 184-points).
Motorex KTM Off-Road Team’s Ben Kearney missed an Outright podium spot by 10-seconds today, finishing 4th behind Roberts and 2nd in the Motul Championship E1 Class.
Ballard’s Yamaha rider Jarrod Bewley, who will go into the final weekend of competition in 3nd in the Outright point’s standings (on 192-points), came 5th Outright today.
Bewley finished 3rd behind Hollis and Roberts in the Yamaha Championship E2 class.
Husqvarna’s Jehi Willis had one of his best AORC results today, coming 6th Outright.
KTM’s Brad Williscroft came 7th (and 1st in Championship E3), Yamaha’s Kirk Hutton finished 8th, Sutto’s KTM Alpinestars ADB rider Geoff Braico came 9th and Christensen’s Yamaha’s Blake Hore rounded out the top-10.
Organiser Phil Sargent, of Dirt Bike Promotions, said he wanted to give a huge thank you to Cole and Dave Robbins and their motorcycle club and the property owner for making the weekend and the “fantastic tracks” possible.
The 12-round AORC is ran over six weekends and visits QLD, VIC and NSW. The remaining two rounds will be held at Nowra (NSW) on August 16 and 17.
The championship boasts classes for every level of rider, from Juniors older than 9-years to clubman, women, veterans, masters, experts and championship-level racers.
There’s still plenty of time to enter for Nowra. To enter, for full results from today (and championship points going into the final two rounds), pics and video interviews, please visit www.dirtbikepromotions.com.au
