Known to be the world’s number one female freestyle motocross rider, Mary Perkins from New Zealand has been signed to Motorex KTM Freestyle Team, who have backed the 25 year old in her mission to revolutionise women’s freestyle motocross.
Residing in Papamoa on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Perkins was first introduced to a motorbike at the age of 14, to ride around her families farm. Taking an immediate liking to two wheels, Perkins got into motocross and later moved onto freestyle, which is where her passion lies today.
Perkins biggest achievements in freestyle motocross includes being the first female to complete an AJ Hackett bungy off Auckland's Harbour Bridge aboard a motorbike, holding the guiness world record for the largest jump by a female rider and the world’s only female rider to participate in the Crusty Demons freestyle motocross shows.
Commenting on her new ride with KTM, Mary Perkins said, “My signing with Motorex KTM Freestyle Team came about because I wanted a fresh approach to my freestyle riding with reliable bikes and a team that shared the same vision and passion that I do for developing the sport.
“I’ve been lucky enough to train with Australian freestyle rider Matt Schubring, who also rides for Motorex KTM Freestyle, and to now be his team mate across the Tasman is going to be awesome.
“Schuie has been one of the most influential riders in my freestyle career, he has helped me out with technique and tips for riding and doesn’t mind sharing his trade secrets that make him one of the best riders in the world.
“Looking ahead at my future with Motorex KTM Freestyle Team, my aim is to take them on my journey to become the first female to complete a back flip on a 250cc bike and to break my own world record of completing the largest motorbike jump by a female, which is currently 159.4 feet.”
Perkins bike of choice with Motorex KTM Freestyle will be the KTM 250 SX-F. Her first events will be entertainment style shows throughout New Zealand. Stay tuned on Mary Perkins achievements and appearances at www.ktm.co.nz
