Honda’s Red Riders schools visit program was developed in 2003 to serve as an informative medium utilising motorcycle racing as a way to interact with today’s youth.
Since that time it has gone from strength to strength, and for 2007, a new environmental initiative has been introduced to the program.
“The message is clear and simple,” says Full Throttle Sports and program Director, Yarrive Konsky.
“For a young person to be good at something, they must be disciplined, have self respect, demonstrate trust, faith and, most importantly, self belief.”
The Red Riders program uses high profile athletes to address these issues and how they tie into motorcycle racing. Importantly, class discussion also covers safety, saying ‘no’ to drugs in life and sport, goal setting, living a healthy lifestyle and discussing how young people can be environmentally responsible.
Honda Australia’s Brand Manager, Phil Reynolds noted how the environmental component is very much in line with Honda’s global philosophy.
“Honda continually works to raise environmental awareness wherever possible, and we believe today’s youth have a growing responsibility in preserving our land and our country,” he said.
“Red Riders addresses the preservation of our forests and waterways, and touches on the ethics of responsible land use as it relates to off road motorcycle riding.”
To this end, and to symbolise their commitment to the cause, Honda will facilitate the planting of a tree during each Red Riders school visit to help promote environmental awareness and responsibility.
“The wilderness is an important part of our environment and we need to ensure that it remains a part of our future,” he added.
The program is administered and coordinated by Full Throttle Sports. To make an enquiry about a school visit:Contact Nicole Sweet; (03) 9785 2786 or email admin@fullthrottlesports.com
