Undeniably, the Victorian ATV MX scene is extremely healthy and by far leads the country in all things ATV.
Whilst running only four classes two years ago and eight in 2005 the format for season 2006 sees a whopping fourteen classes. The "Yamaha ATV MX Super Series 8" gets underway March 26th at the Newry circuit in Victorias east. Eight rounds with all competitors having to drop one round.
Says Victorian ATV race director Mark Beechey; "the format of having to drop a round keeps things interesting right till the finale. This worked great last year with many classes going down to the wire to decide the Championship. It's awesome to have this many classes, each year we just grow in leaps and bounds.
"An all new production class will make things interesting, some riders will ride their tricked up quads in Pro ect and then switch to a virtual stock bike for the Production class races.
"There are several modified and production classes and now we introduce a Vets class so riders get even more choices this year".
A rapid growth of the sport in Victoria is a direct result of the generous backing from Yamaha and other club sponsors and also the hard work and planning from the Quad Riders Club Victoria. QRCV does a lot for quads with trail rides, sand weekends, enduros and of course the outstanding MX series.
"This year we will get well over 100 riders at our MX rounds, the ATV Nationals last year attracted around 110 riders from all around the country so to get this many to our state series is amazing. We'll have riders from SA, QLD, NSW, Tassie and the ACT not to mention the outstanding talent we have right here in Victoria", Mark added. Many riders also enjoy backing from leading ATV manufacturers and accessory companies as they can see the big picture and where ATV racing is heading. Victorian, Adam Siemensma will represent Yamaha Australia this year in the Pro class whilst several other competitors also enjoy major brand backing.
Even the juniors are getting great support, they all take their racing seriously but off the track are all great friends. The camaraderie amongst ATVers is great; it's not unusual to see racers helping each other out. With ATV racing in North America breaking all records it's fair to say we are on the same path down under. Spectator entry is free and to find out more check out www.qrcv.com.au
