Nitro Circus Live kicks off 2012 Australian tour in Brisbane

Posted: Monday, 14th May, 2012 : 6:00 AM - - 17,187 Reads

Nitro Circus Live, has once again hit Australian shores and kicked off its 2012 Australian capital city tour, with a huge sold out show at the Brisbane Entertainment centre on Saturday night the 12th of May.

Some of the greatest action sports stars on the planet threw down the biggest tricks in FMX, BMX and skate as well as using their skill to push the boundaries on a range of crazy, and sometimes ridiculous, contraptions.

The current X Games gold medallist in FMX Big Air from Australia, Jackson Strong, successfully landed a FMX front flip over a 80 foot gap, which he has only landed a few times. He is the only rider in the world to perform the trick over such a huge gap and from a standard FMX kicker.

Skateboarding mega star from Brazil, Bob Burnquist, showed why he is one of the most successful athletes in X Games history, by attempting a range of mind blowing skateboard tricks off the 50 foot high Giganta ramp, including his own Christ Air back flip and a front flip.

He was also the first athlete to attempt the all new ‘Nitro Loop’ in the show, which is a huge loop attached to the end of the Giganta ramp that the athletes hit with high speed to circle upside down and shoot out at the other end.

All of the FMX and BMX athletes got the animated crowd on their feet when they performed the first ever all in back flip, which saw a total of 18 riders upside down 30 feet in the air.

America’s James Foster made an attempt to land the first ever BMX triple back flip in Australia, but under rotated on the third rotation. He is hoping to tweak the ramp slightly so he can make history in the second show tonight.

Foster wasn’t the only one to crash throughout the night with a number of spectacular falls resulting from the insane trick attempts on both the Giganta and FMX ramps.

Australia’s Mark Monea, went flying over his handlebars when he attempted his signature off axis FMX front flip; Nitro girl, Jolene Van Vugt, took a huge slam in her Barbie car and BMX young gun, Andrew Ahumada, came up short on his first jump of the night. Fortunately there were no serious injuries.

Managing Director of Nitro Circus Live, Michael Porra, said he was blown away by all of the athletes performances.

“All of the athletes on our tour are the best in the business and the tricks they can perform are simply mind blowing." stated Porra.

"The progression since our last tour is amazing and we are so thrilled that we can showcase their talent to huge audiences in Australia and around the world, in such a fun and entertaining show,” Porra concluded after the opening show.

Nitro Circus Live has two more shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre this weekend before making its way around the remaining capital cities.

May 25, 26 & 27 Rod Laver Arena Melbourne
