Lawson Bopping perfect fit for CDR Yamaha

Though his race results have not quite been at the pointy end of the MX1 field after the first two rounds of this year's Monster Energy MX Nationals series, CDR Yamaha team owner Craig Dack feels Lawson Bopping is the perfect fit for his team.
After the announcement was made at the end of 2011 that Jay Marmont would be moving on from the team, Dack had two choices, chase another experienced championship contenter or take a young rider under his wing and help develop them into a future champion.
With Josh Coppins already locked in for the 2012 season and being a proven championship contender, Dack a former Multi time Australian motocross champion himself chose the latter path and decided that a fast young rider was his best option going forward.
"When Jay left instead of going and targeting another seasoned top guy, I thought it was time for the team to have a project rider again" explained Dack.
"I felt that way again and I have always liked to take a rider and help development them through their career and I felt it was the perfect time to bring a young rider on.
"I already had one rider on the team with plenty of experience coming towards the end of his career in Josh, and then to bring in a young rider just starting, I felt that mix would be great for the both of them." Dack continued.
Lawson proved last year aboard the Raceline Pirelli Suzuki that he has the speed in both Motocross and Supercross to run up front and be a title contender in years to come.
He continued to back that up when he qualified fastest at Coonabarabran. There were a few people that had some doubts about his fastest lap in qualifying.
However Bopping put those doubts to rest by posting the fastest lap times in both of the first two motos when racing got underway on Sunday, something that did not go unnoticed by his boss.
With the speed there Dack knows that if Lawson can just tidy up one or two aspects of his riding everything will fall into place perfectly.
"Lawson qualified fastest at Coonabarabran by a second and a half, he then backed that up with the fastest laps in both of the first two races." said Dack
"Lawson is a project rider, and is doing everything perfectly he just needs to get all those one per centres right and he will be away. So from that point of view it is really good." he explained.
Dack believes having a young gun like Bopping in the team not only helps the new riders' development but also benefits Josh Coppins in his quest to capture the Australian motocross championship.
"We seen at Coonabarabran, Lawson was quick in qualifying, he has that outright pace, so that helps keep Josh on his toes." Dack stated.
"I felt the balance between these two riders would be good and as it is turning out so far it is perfect." he concluded.
