For the first time in Western Australian motocross, history will be made with a four round state championships series for women in 2010, supported by Healthways and PerthMX.com.
The impressive field of riders throughout the series in 2009 ranged in ages from 16 yrs to 38yrs and all with different riding abilities certainly did not deter the riders from being competitive. Perhaps most importantly is that the group of girls now shares a bond as riders and friends.
Round 1 kicks off in April with the first round on a sand track at the historic Coastal Park MX Circuit, the host club is the oldest club in WA. The sand specialists are set to take advantage with this opening round with the likes of Simone Gaisford, Tahlia Riley, Taryn Leighton, Emma Clack, Chelsea Blakers and Dimity-Lee Duke determined to make a their own.
Round 2 moves to the picturesque Noble Falls MX Circuit and the hardpacked favourite of many riders, local competitor and club champion Kathryn Scoble dicing with fellow rider Emma Clack, and fighting off the challenge from other WA riders.
Southern Cross is the destination for Round 3 at the King of the Cross Event, who will be crowned Queen in 2010 will Josephine Adlam return for back to back glory or will a local girl prevail over the interstate riders expected to make the trip will it be Rachel Eagles, Michelle Mullins or will an upset prevail?
Round 4 and the final round will see the ladies compete at the Southern Capes Motorcycle Club at Jindong Park just outside of Bussleton. The Quads will also take to this track for the state championships on May 8th before the cream of the country’s riders swarm down for the Australian Championships on October 16th and 17th. Riders expected to do well are Aus #2 Teneil Morgan, Aus #4 Simone Gaisford, Aus #5 Bernice Ackerman and current WA #1 Jessica Osborne. Close to a full grid of women quad riders are expected to compete.
At Jindong on two wheels, young guns Hannah Lovett, Nikki Baxter and Jessica Moore will be up for the challenge from local riders Tracey Burns, Chelsea Blakers and Dimity Lee Duke, who will be determined to make the final round a memorable round on their home track, but will a surprise be in store from the other 20 or so riders all battling it out and vying for the coveted Number 1 plate and be crowned the 2010 WAMX Ladies State Champion?
Don’t miss all the action trackside and support the 2010 WAMX Ladies State Championships.
