Wellard Yamaha takes Three A/X Championships

Wellard Yamaha riders have closed out their four week Arena Cross season with Six podium finishes while collecting three State Championships in the Western Australian A/X series.

Saturday night under lights at the Byford circuit in front of a huge crowd the Wellard Yamaha team put on an awesome display of riding collecting the 85cc, 125cc and 250F Championships.

Pro team rider Jayden Rykers (Mandurah City Yamaha) was dominant in the Big Wheel 85cc class and showed a clean pair of heals to his opposition in every race, going 1, 1, 1 collecting the team’s first title. “It was my last 85cc ride tonight before moving up to 125’s next year. I felt great out their and my YZ was just perfect, it was good to collect another title to go with my MX win earlier this year” stated Jayden.

Satellite rider Jonty Thomas rode well over the series and battled it out with team mate Kyle Webster (North City Yamaha) on the penultimate night to claim the 125cc title. Thomas needed to withstand pressure from Webster who has just returned from a knee injury until a crash resulted in another injury to Webster finishing his night. Jonty went 4,2,1 to clinch his first ever title. “This has been an awesome year riding for Wellard Yamaha and I can’t thank them enough” a happy Thomas said after the meeting.

With the three fastest 250F riders rider’s being on one team the action was blazing at every round of the series. Craig Bolton (Causeway Yamaha), Shaun Cornick (Highway Yamaha) and Daniel Strickland (Five Star Yamaha) had the crowd on the edge of their seat throughout the series and all three came into the final round poised to take the title. You could not have scripted better racing as the three young guns duked it out for the lead in every race. The title night was no different as they wound up their YZ 250F’s producing some of the hardest racing seen for a long time.

By the end of the action packed night and with a win a piece, it was down to minor placing to decide the Championship. There were just four points separating all three racers in the final tally. Daniel went 3, 3, 1 for third, Craig was 2, 1, 3 for second leaving Shaun to take out the title by virtue of a 1, 2, 2 result.

After the meeting the three racers joked and laughed about the moves they put on each other in the meeting with Craig firmly reminding Daniel that he had bragging rights for this one!!

The last podium came from satellite rider Jayden Fabry who picked up a third outright in the Small wheel 85cc class. Jayden has developed into a very good rider over the year and loves the hardpack circuit of Byford and this was just icing on the cake for the young hot shot.

“Tonight’s results were fantastic for Yamaha and Wellard, we claimed a podium in every class that Yamaha produces a bike and the boys have been the form team all year. This result takes us to five Championships and the number one plate for the year. For the 250 guys to take the trifeca on the podium tonight just stamped the authority of Yamaha’s program for producing winners. We have got some new blood coming into the team next year so I hope the opposition is getting prepared because we will be firing on all eight next season” a pleased Team Manager Peter Strickland had to add reflecting on his young racers achievements.
